Bio.

A versatile musician with interests ranging from Western classical music to world musics, jazz, popular genres, and the avant-garde, Tyler Jones (b. 1993, he/him/his) is a composer and conductor currently working in the American Southeast.

Reviewed as “intense” and “richly detailed,” Tyler’s music explores intriguing rhythmic-metric structures and earthy, evocative colors. Audiences have heard Tyler’s music at Carnegie Hall, various screen-dance film festivals, numerous college and university venues in the United States, and at prestigious events like the 2023 College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Conference in Athens, Georgia, where Tyler was a featured composer and panelist.

Tyler holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition with a secondary concentration in musicology from The University of Alabama School of Music. His other degrees include a Master of Music in composition and Bachelor of Music in music theory, both from Alabama. Tyler also studied composition at the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Mead Witter School of Music. Tyler’s teachers include Amir Zaheri, Tyler Bradley Walker, Craig First, and Laura Schwendinger for composition; Blake Richardson for conducting; and Tim Feeney for percussion. As a scholar, Tyler focuses on the music of Lili Boulanger, American postmodernism, and European music during World War II. Tyler is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) and the Millennium Composers Initiative.
